Internet child traffic prevention program

The project is a complete novelty in Romania and was launched by the Sector 2 local administration and by the Nadia Comaneci Foundation in Bucharest, yesterday. The program seeks to educate children to safely navigate on the Internet. Lavinia Serban, Nine O’clock, 2008-04-15

Attending the program opening, former gymnast Nadia Comaneci explained to the children that they should always refuse disclosing their identity to unknown individuals.

“There are many things that I am unfamiliar with because there was no Internet when I was a child, but my parents would always tell me not to accept to see people I do not know. That piece of advice is valid today too,” Nadia Comaneci told the pupils at the ‘Emil Racovita’ National College in Bucharest.

George Roman, “Save the Children Program” Director, said that in Romania there is no data available on the real magnitude of the phenomenon but that, in countries where relevant research has been conducted, half of the missing or abused children had been lured while being online.  Full article.

Sports Museum of America is where Billie Jean is King

Amidst the traffic and crush of pedestrians in lower Manhattan is a sweet escape for sports fans.

The new Sports Museum of America opened its doors to the public Wednesday and it features memorabilia loaned out by more than 65 Hall of Fames and galleries highlighting nearly every sport.

What stands out among the salutes, however, is the Billie Jean King International Women's Sports Center wing - the world's only museum exhibit and Hall of Fame dedicated to all women's sports.

The exhibit highlights moments in sports such as the Title IX law for gender equality in 1972 to Nadia Comaneci's perfect 10 in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and the 1997 launch of the WNBA.
